Our clients live in a light-filled home overlooking leafy gardens and Lake Zurich. While the architecture and views were already exceptional, the living room lacked definition and flexibility. The brief was to create a series of custom pieces that would improve the way the room functioned, particularly when entertaining, while transforming it into a warm, welcoming space for everyday living.
Rather than filling the room with additional furniture, we focused on creating a composition that felt grounded, comfortable and adaptable. Every intervention was carefully considered to enhance the way the space was experienced without compromising its openness.
Floor-to-ceiling custom drapery frames the generous windows and softens the stone flooring, while a large bespoke rug woven from recycled plastic bottles with the look and feel of viscose defines the seating area and improves the room's acoustics.
We painted the walls in a warm Farrow & Ball neutral and introduced a collection of custom Belgian furniture, including a sliding side table and a round coffee table with a matching upholstered ottoman tucked neatly beneath it. Lightweight and versatile, each piece can be repositioned with ease as the room adapts to different occasions.
Styling focused on repetition to create a cohesive composition. Deep burgundy dried florals reference the Egg Chair, oversized linen cushions echo the black detailing of the furniture, a mohair throw picks up tones from the existing artwork, and brushed gold accessories add warmth throughout the space.
The result is a welcoming living room that balances functionality with comfort—a place to relax, entertain and enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Zurich.
