The Makers' Abode

The Toughest Open Plan Around, Redefined

Our clients are real home bodies: they enjoy listening to records, reading, watching tv, cooking, and late mornings on weekends. Additionally, one of them is an amazing artist painting regularly; the other one, a knitting talent who works on her creations as a daily hobby. They originally approached our studio in search for the perfect window treatments because the "Attika Wohnung" they live in is a traditional Swiss style rental property of unusually large proportions, complicated architecture and had no fittings where to mount wall coverings. What started off with a complete custom curtain concept and installation evolved into a design update that defined the large open plan into functional zones in a fun way that reflects their unique personalities and creative lifestyle. We selected timeless pieces that they can re-use in a future home.

A custom made metal and solid oak console creates storage room for sewing and artwork supplies while providing a stylish surface for extra lighting behind the sofa. It's also a dynamic setting adorning the first view of the open space as you enter. A powder coated custom sideboard with round finish separates the reading area from the dining room. We found the perfect lamp to supplement the home's diagonal beams and illuminate the turntable that will placed on the sideboard. Our clients' record collection is stored inside. Last but not least, two large, highly textured armchairs fill the large proportions of the reading corner with comfort and the side table is the perfect jewel to pull off the space.
